Shoot on a plain background of any color — paper, fabric, or seamless cardstock. Avoid patterned, textured, or glossy backgrounds where reflections compete with the coin's surface texture. The detection works on any coin shape, color, and lighting condition, including silver, copper, gold, and toned pieces.
iPhone HEIC files
This tool reads JPEG and PNG only. To convert HEIC to JPEG: open the files in Preview, select all, then File → Export Selected Images → JPEG. To shoot JPEG going forward: Settings → Camera → Formats → "Most Compatible".
Beta software
This tool is in active development and may produce incorrect crops on unusual photos. If a photo crops poorly, please email it to lucasgould.co@gmail.com and I'll tune the algorithm. Bug reports with the original photo attached are most helpful.
